Episode 5 Impressions: World Conquest Zvezda Plot

e5zvezdahdr

World Conquest Zvezda Plot finally breaks from its back story rut as it moves into more entertaining and all around laughter inducing writing that we fell in love with the first episode.  Changing its focus instead to the Government Organization White Light.  Or namely  Second Leiutenant Robin of whose identity is painfully obvious!  Asuta’s classmate Komadori Renge.

e5zvezda9Following a battle between Zvezda and the White Light Organization, we get some insight into the debriefing from each side.  Robin is scolded by her superiors for wasting the taxpayer’s dollars while on the Zvezda side, Kate turns her sights on Robin as being a potential danger to their plans.  Kate orders her soldiers to find the identity of Robin before it’s too late.

Asuta’s already has his sights set on Renge due to her trinket she wears that is present on Robin’s weapon.  The following day he learns that it’s self-made so quite unique to her, leaving him with little doubt.  They also run into a girl at school who looks strikingly similar to another White Light Sergeant Major Egret who’s real name is  Shirasagi Miki.  Of whom Renge adores though doesn’t know her true identity.  This is because White Lights are forbidden from revealing their identity to even each other.

Asuta looks to solidify his speculation by sneaking into the girl’s locker room with great hesitation.  Though after finding Renge’s locker, gym ends and he’s forced to hide in her locker.  When Renge opens it, she finds Asuta disguised as her nemesis, Dva (Asuta’s villain name).  This turns into a chase through the school before Miki kicks him through a window and Renge (as Robin) continues the assault.

At an abandoned construction zone, Renge corners Asuta only to find that Kate had planned her capture by planting a gigantic tentacle monster named Squirmy and Slimy Taro Aktinika.  Though during both Asuta and Renge’s binding, Asuta suddenly has the desire to save her from being revealed and cuts them loose using Renge’s blade.

e5zvezda3After the tentacle monster is destroyed, Asuta as Dva realizes he can’t reveal his identity and claims he saved her because Dva doesn’t hurt girls.  Just then Renge’s mask breaks revealing a completely different face than Renge’s.  This throws off Asuta’s speculation though it is later revealed at the White Light base that Renge wears another mask under her Robin mask.

Good episode altogether.  I’m really starting to like Renge as a character, though I’m not sure how much the show will continue to follow her.  I’d also hate for it to turn into a super hero type show where we are constantly toying with identities.  Though I was sort of bummed that they didn’t just resolve identities with this episode.  I really enjoy their chemistry.

It was also nice to see more of the White Light organization and get that stark contrast going between the two opposing factions.  That said, the locker room scene had to easily be my favorite of the episode.  I was hollering in laughter when she opened the door to find that mask breathing face staring right back at her.  Then there’s the awesome Star Wars reference towards the end.  It’s definitely looking brighter for this series!

Damn, I had to read it before I acctually watched to show, as if that would stop me. Enjoy the format once again and easy to read. Seems like this series will devote an episode to each character seeing as we have one for all except Itsuka and Gorou Shikabane. Think they are brother/sister or father/daughter since they share their a last name? Guess we will find out in coming episodes.

    • Well, I have to admit I never put those two’s names together. Haha. Technically Gorou was partially covered in episode 3, but I can definitely see it expanded. Of course I wish they had more depth to all of them to be honest. Perhaps we’ll get the second half with Itsuka, though I see her being more about her obsession with Kate. Because she’s definitely got a shrine built out of her room in honor of Kate.

Thanks for the kind words and for the comment. I’m glad you enjoy the articles!
