Episode 9 Impressions: Nanana’s Buried Treasure

Things are really ramping up for the Treasure Hunting Club as the new arrival of Ikusaba Hiiyo threatens not only their ambitions for the treasures, but also their very lives.  His past with the original club is painted in a dark aura and with him on the field, things just got much more risky.

e9nanana6Synopsis
While at first it seemed that Ikusaba Hiiyo only had connections with Yuiga, after a fateful run in with Saki unveils a much deeper connection that springs everyone into action.  After Juugo meets up with Yuiga and the other club members, it’s established that Saki may have been used by Ikusaba in order to obtain a treasure.

With her life now threatened, they work to find the ruins before Ikusaba does in order to secure her safety.  Though that seems easier said than done as Juugo begs Nanana for tips on its location.

Thoughts
I’m not quite sure what the team behind Nanana’s Buried Treasure is going for anymore.  They’ve definitely managed to finally put some weight into some of the characters, but at the same time it still manages to remain in obscurity.

e9nanana4To top that off, I thought for some time there that they were going to go real dark with the story.  For sake of spoilers I’ll remain vague here.  But just when I thought something happened, it didn’t.  Then it popped up again, and reversed once again.  It was rather disappointing that they chose to remain conservative even after making such a move in the first place.

Despite my negativity, it was a rather refreshing episode.  For once I’m starting to get some sort of connection with characters and not feeling so left out.  There may just be some hope for the series yet.  I’m just a bit miffed that Tensai seems to be taking such a back seat.
