Episode 3 Impressions: Sailor Moon Crystal

While Usagi no longer finds herself alone with the new arrival of Ami in the sailor scouts, the tight schedule of her knowledge seeking companion will leave Usagi alone to her curious nose.

e3sailormooncrystal4Synopsis
In her dark chamber, Queen Beryl is not pleased at Jadeite’s continuous failure in taking down the sailor scouts and retrieving the Legendary Silver Crystal. Despite this, he manages to gain another chance to reclaim his honor and sets off to assemble his latest plan.

While Ami makes her way to after school seminars, she claims to Usagi that a beautiful girl takes the bus at times. This leads Usagi to board with her and see this girl for herself. Turns out the girl is a shrine maiden named Rei Hino.

Rei seems to wield an unusual power, and although Usagi desires to help her with a case of a missing girl, Rei seems to distance herself. As rumors of a ghost bus starts to spread throughout the area, Usagi finds herself coming to Rei’s aid despite everything and helps discover Sailor Mars.

e3sailormooncrystal10Thoughts
A fairly decent episode compared to the previous. I was happy to see that Rei is a lot less Tsundere in this version of her and Sailor Mars’s transformation was much less terrible (though that’s not saying much).

I did find the interaction between Usagi and Chiba to be rather cute and it seems to be progressing their relationship much faster than the original series. Which is, I guess, to be expected since the overall story is removing a lot of fluff.

In the end, Episode 3 seen a lot of improvements for my hope in the series.  Perhaps I’m just getting less annoyed by the animation, but I still enjoyed it much more.  Now if only Jupiter would show up…

Episode 3: Rei – Sailor Mars –

NOT BAD, BUT NOT GREAT..

NOT BAD, BUT NOT GREAT..

IMPRESSIONS VERDICT:
Good

Pros:

  • Some cute moments
  • Usagi and Chiba
  • Not-So terrible Mars Transformation
  • Rei isn’t off-putting

Cons:

  • Art is still terribly wonky
  • Odd pacing

Impressions are based on a single episode and don’t necessarily reflect the series as a whole. Unless dropped, we will continue to give updates on thoughts and impressions of the series as time goes by.
