Episode 6 Impressions: Tokyo Ghoul

After last week’s cliffhanger that showcased Touka’s glorious transformation, we were sure to witness an interesting conclusion to her fight with Tsukiyama. Will Kaneki finally escape from Tsukiyama’s clutches?

Synopsis
e6tokyoghoul1After Touka’s clash with Tsukiyama ends off with a confrontational dilemma for Touka, Yoshimura and Kaneki manage to talk Nishiki into joining the Anteiku. Ryoko and Hinami, still in hiding at the Anteiku, miss their husband/father and mentally support each other. This happens simultaneously with Ryoko’s husband, who was sailing in dangerous waters, getting injured by Yamori (aka Jason), and ultimately killed by the Doves…

It all goes out of the frying pan and into the fire when Ryoko and Hinami bump into the Doves during a shopping session. Ryoko’s motherly instincts fire into overdrive as she protects her daughter Hinami.  Even still, her fate comes into question as she faces off against two Doves while Hinami rushes to seek help from Touka and Kaneki.

Thoughts
e6tokyoghoul2One of the things that stood out to me was the focus on human-ghoul relationships, especially in the first half of the episode. A very nice touch that ended up affecting Touka and Nishiki in various ways. Interesting reveals that ranged in importance also contributed greatly. Such as the content of the attaché cases, or how ghouls (or at least their offspring) have heightened senses (Hinami).

Negatives would have to include the censorship. I don’t want to mention it too often, but it got ridiculous at times. I shouldn’t be guessing what’s going on… I’m also still trying to appreciate Touka’s character. I sincerely hope there’s still room for development as her character is currently at a standstill. As for the future, I don’t think Ryoko will survive. Hinami will probably live and become an asset to the Anteiku, but time will tell!
