Episode 7 Impressions: Terror in Resonance

e7terrorinresonancehdr

The epic showdown between the Sphinx and Five is underway with the lives of hundreds of unsuspecting civilians caught in the middle.  With the aid of the third Sphinx and maybe even Shibazaki, can they put an end to this madness?

e7terrorinresonance2Synopsis
The chess game continues as Twelve and Nine make their move. Quickly Twelve takes a more incognito approach to disappearing from the camera’s eyes and Twelve continues to play into Five’s hand.

At the same time, Nine and Twelve call into play their ultimate trump card, the “Third Sphinx” who of course ends up being Lisa. Having her take after the presumed location of the goal at hand.

Elsewhere, Shibazaki and his band of detectives try to make sense of the situation. While they are a step behind the entire time, it doesn’t stop Nine from ultimately having to call him into play as yet another pawn on the chess board as their last remaining hope is in his authority.

e7terrorinresonance3Thoughts
Quite a fantastic episode of cat and mouse that really had me surprised. Seeing Nine and Twelve take on Five was much more rewarding that I originally had hoped for. While I still don’t feel Five was introduced well enough, she still ended up being an interesting antagonist in this scenario.

I also got quite a kick out of Lisa’s involvement in the situation. While at times she feels like an obvious insertion of comedic value, she also ends up being a bit of grounded reality in the midst of battling minds. Being the only one the viewer can really relate to. Which is oddly refreshing in my opinion.

e7terrorinresonance8I was truly surprised by Twelve’s initiative to save Lisa. I honestly have kept the notion that he was screwed up and unable to really care for her. While I still think he’s crazy, I also see a side of him that may perhaps want to protect those that are in his fold. Which would explain his threat before.

What really has me frustrated about this episode was Shibazaki’s reaction to Nine at the very end.  Even after being told about the bomb on the plane, having to barge past security, hold a person at gunpoint in order to redirect a plane carrying explosives, being threatened and mocked by the obvious culprit, he STILL desires to go after the Sphinx.  Hello!  Shibazaki!  Is this on?  You have much bigger fish to fry right behind you!
