Episode 9 Impressions: Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun

e9monthlygirlsnozakikunhdr

The all too familiar rain scenario that is always present in shoujo manga. It’s not too much to ask for Sakura to get her wish for a romantic walk with Nozaki under an umbrella is it?

e9monthlygirlsnozakikun1Synopsis
Following a fated meet with Nozaki amidst pouring rain, Nozaki ends up revealing his lack of an umbrella to share with Sakura. This delima morphs into a slew of awfully silly ideas for overcoming the rain that all turn out to be duds. Thankfully, after an extremely fitting act of selflessness by Seo, the two end up walking amongst the rain below a single umbrella. Though it may not entirely be what Sakura wanted.

At a later time, Nozaki and Sakura pay Miyako another visit. Though the conversation quickly shifts to Maeno’s treatment of Miyako’s work. Changing of titles, misspelling, and of course, tanuki. While they attempt to push Miyako to confront Maeno, each scenario ends up backfiring on them. Including the creation of a main character dressed as a tanuki.

e9monthlygirlsnozakikun11Thoughts
This episode ended up being another half and half situation. The first half exploring the umbrella scenario had me laughing from beginning to end. Some priceless moments that continue to have me feeling sorry, but also laughing, for Sakura.

At the same time, the second segment was a bit iffy. Unfortunately I still don’t find the chemistry with Maeno all that funny. Sure, a terrible agent is something many people can relate to and find comical, here it isn’t all that funny. That said, seeing the tanuki within the comics this time around was very laugh inducing.
