Episode 10 Impressions: Sailor Moon Crystal

Now that Usagi has herself gathered, it’s time to set sights on the Moon in order to uncover the truth behind the Moon Kingdom’s fall.  Though most of it is known to them by now, some deeper secrets will be revealed.

e10sailormooncrystal02Synopsis
The time is perfect, and the Sailor Scouts gather to travel to the Moon’s surface.  Once there, they discover the ruins of the Silver Millennium where their kingdom existed.  Upon entering the ruins of the Moon Castle, they find the prayer room where the queen left her will behind to speak to Usagi and the other scouts.

That’s how the team end up discovering the full truth of the downfall of the Moon Kingdom.  After Endymion’s death, Serenity took her own life and Queen Serenity used the Legendary Silver Crystal to seal away the evil that was corrupting Earth’s citizens.  However in return, Silver Millennium was turned to stone and Earth’s kingdom was destroyed.  Forcing everything to start over again.

e10sailormooncrystal04Back in the presence of Queen Metalia, Beryl converses of the status of the Legendary Silver Crystal and what occurred when she kidnapped Tuxedo Mask.  During this conversation, she mentions the Four Kings and their lost memories.  Obviously referring to Kunzite, Zoisite, Nephrite, and Jadeite, who happen to be listening in.  While they regain themselves temporarily, Beryl quickly recasts her deceptive spell on them and sends them into battle against the scouts.

Meanwhile, Beryl begins her next plot by using that very same mind control on Tuxedo Mask.

Thoughts
Wow, quite a bit here that I don’t even recall from the original animated series that I watched e10sailormooncrystal11so many years ago. Of course, it’s a bit obvious that Serenity’s suicide wouldn’t be included, but the whole bit about the Four Kings was never in my recollection. Though I guess their relationship with the Sailor Scouts would put a bit of a damper on the idea of Naru and Nephrite.

While I was a bit disappointed that a bit of this episode just echoed information we already knew about the fall of the Moon Kingdom, it was refreshing to get a bit more revealed. To the point that we have seemingly all our bases covered. Let’s just hope we can transition into a forward motion beyond this point. Although I have to admit that most of the Moon Kingdom’s backstory is far more interesting than the present time.

Forward onto Dark Endymion it seems. I look forward to the emotional reunion for Usagi. Wait, that sound twisted..
