Episode 7 Impressions: TERRAFORMARS

After Michelle is pulled to safety by Akari’s plan, the two exchange words on their condition and just who will finish off the special legged terraformar. Why argue when the two seem to work so well together?

e7terraformars03Synopsis
Following this battle, we pan to the Russian team who take on a horde of terraformars as they seek to enter a nearby pyramid. Each establishing their own unique traits in combat. Crab defenses, scorpion tail, even a hallucinogenic gas.

As Michelle’s team gets a brief pause in combat, they assess their equipment and get in contact with another team. In speaking with Adolf from the German team, Michelle tells him to get to the Annex 1 crash site as fast as possible. In order to get there before either China or Russia does.

Thoughts
The dreaded budget wall, something that is sadly all too familiar in anime, has finally reached TERRAFORMARS. While some would say TERRAFORMARS didn’t look great to begin with, it grew on me. However, episode 7 had a whole different issue than taste in style. Character art began to look e7terraformars06extremely wonky and what’s worst is the gore even reflects this.

Though the issue with gore could be a whole different can of worms. This is just a theory, but I’m wondering if the animators began to make less gory clips to supplement scenes and aired them instead of the gory stuff we will see in the Blu-Ray. A concept that I favored in replacement of the censorship bars, but these replacements look silly and often cartoonish.

Censorship and wonky animation aside, this episode had little to offer but a nice reunion for Michelle and Akari. Hints of a relationship not too far off. Which is fine because they are fun together. Beyond that however, is an episode surrounding the Russian team and their exposing their powers. Which wasn’t all that interesting or clever. Just repetitive beatings and narration about creatures they share e7terraformars10talents with.

About the only other sliver of plot we really got was some hints about some distrust in the ranks. Michelle telling Adolf to get to Annex 1 crash site before either China or Russia does. Of course, China appears wiped out.

There’s also the Russian team having some ulterior motive in entering some pyramids. They claimed they wanted to put an end to “Rahab’s Legacy” in a previous episode.  Which research says Rahab was a planet destroyed by a comet. The remaining lives moved to Mars and Earth, which is where the pyramids came from.

It’s not much, but it’s interesting none the less.
