Episode 1 Impressions: Military!

Shorts are a great medium for whacky shows that can be random and take huge risks.  With Military! kicking off their series during this Winter 2015 Season, there’s some promise for some crazy laughs.

e1military02Synopsis
Lieutenant Lutgarnikov and Second Lieutenant Haruka of the Krakozhia Army Special Forces have barged their way into the home of Yano Souhei… with a tank!  After nearly blasting him to bits due to a misunderstanding, they save him from an assassination attempt.

Turns out that his father, who he thought was a regular salaryman, ended up being forced into military service due to an error in some paperwork.  In response, he became a mercenary that ended up tilting the war in the favor of their nation.

Due to the amazing efforts of the father, it seems their enemy, the Republic of Grania, is seeking to kill his son Yano Souhei.  In response, his father has sent the two Lieutenants to protect him… though their violent nature may be more dangerous than the Grania.

e1military07Thoughts
This is 3 minute show, based on a 4-panel comic, so there really isn’t too much to discuss here.  However I did want to give it some credit where it’s deserved.

Kicking off its first episode, we got a quick layout of what it’s about, a boy being protected by two violent, cute girls.  What was clever about it was in its simplicity and ability to tell its plot with some good laughs to follow it through.  I just had some great “Forest Gump” mental image of a salaryman being thrown into war and pulling off something amazing.

It’s cute, it’s random, the jokes were fast enough that they didn’t dwell on them, and it was delivered just right.  I have some hopes for this show to snag some laughs out of me.  With little investment required, it’s definitely something to offer 3 minutes to trying out.
