I've always thought that theirs was one of the most unique and endearing relationships in anime. It helps that their English VAs, J. Michael Tatum and Brina Palencia, have kickass chemistry in this show.

It was worded fine, I just felt like answering with pairs because the dynamic between the pairs is so much a part of why I love those characters. Spice and wolf are definitely a good pair too, but their relationship didn't develope enough for me to feel satisfied at all.
BlueSpark wrote:I hope I'm not worsening your mood by inquiring about this, but what is it about the upcoming semester that has you so downtrodden?

thank you for asking! Its the 45 min drive, waking up at 5:30 am (when I am much more of a night owl), the professors are inconsistent and disorganized, and the content is redundant.
A good example of the professor's disorganization is that my bio teacher told us the lecture was over yesterday morning, we started packing up and finishing up setting up our online lab accounts, and then she started lecturing again... for an hour... on the content she already covered in a previous course. Today a professor went over the same PowerPoint she used last year. I understand a lot of students may have forgotten since then, but I have really good factual recall so I spent both classes griding my teeth and fidgeting. If I'm driving almost two hours to school each day and paying thousands of dollars I want to learn new things, you know?

That's a fair way to look at it. The show doesn't do much overtly to develop their bond, but I feel that there are a lot of subtle moments between them which are simply golden. Not enough that I'd rank them among my all-time favorite characters, though, so I'm with you on that point.

Now, the manga series (which I read to completion) gives Lawrence and Holo's relationship a much more concrete conclusion. Which doesn't change what the anime does with them, of course - just wanted to let you know since you enjoyed the show overall.

Ooof... Your description doesn't sound very promising. I get why you're upset. The early starting time and travel distance probably fall under the category 'mismatch' between you and the college in question.

But the situation with the teachers is rather concerning. In Germany, we only pay a small fee (less than 200 euros) per semester at university. For a couple of years, there used to be a phase during which the amount was upped to almost 700 (which affected me throughout my Bachelor's studies), but that's still nothing compared to the cost of studying in the US (although I guess it varies a lot between public and private schools, right?). To not have properly organized staff and curricula under those circumstances really shouldn't be acceptable.

I just finished engaged to the undefined's manga and needed to pick another one. I'll check it out sometime next week.
My 2 school friends have both finally had other plans during our gaps so today is the first day I could watch anime since Friday. It really changed my entire mood ::peace:: . I want to eat your pancreas came out with a dub, have you seen it yet? I loved it!

Glad you're feeling better after indulging in our favorite hobby for a bit ;).

I've been looking for the dubbed version of Pancreas for a few weeks now. In... places. Its reception seems to be through the roof, and it's known to be a tearjerker, so naturally, I'm pumped to check it out. Haven't found it anywhere, but today, I checked again, and it seems luck is on my side. So I'll probably watch the movie this weekend.

Next question: What would you say is the aspect/element of anime which you and your husband tend to disagree on the most? Where do your preferences clash most strongly?

He is an uncultured swine. (kidding...mostly) He likes stupid-funny shows like the one with the talking bird and the mochi girl, the kappa one about butts, and American animation like south park and futurama. I really try not to pick on him too much about how stupid I see these shows but watching them is a semi-painful experience.
It is harder to get him to watch shojos unless it has a funny twist or interesting plot. If he is in the right mood though, I can get him hooked on one.

Let me know what you think after you watch the movie! I started spice and wolf's manga last night and it's awesome, I think I'm on volume 3. There is a lot more nudity in it than the show though, I wasn't expecting Lawrence to get butt naked as soon as they get alone together or the random full-color shots of naked Holo's boobs. I won't be able to read this as fast as others since I won't be able to take it out at school.

Heh, I like your disdainful description of Mr. Sierra's tastes - I bet you two are adorable when you rag on each other for your "uncultured" preferences ;>. Since shoujos (which I assume to essentially mean shoujo romances) don't seem to work for him most of the time, are there other kinds of romance animes he takes to more readily?

Digging a bit further into my previous question: When watching stuff together, do you find yourself arguing with your husband about the choices some anime characters are making? Like, "Why did he have to lie to her face right there?" -"Well, because she's clearly better off not knowing, duh!" or "Why didn't he turn to his best friend for advice?" - "That's just part of growing up - he has to do it on his own!" (I'm having way too much fun inventing scenarios here...).

Oooh, you're right, there is that... It becomes much less prominent after the first few volumes, though. Also, starting from (I believe) volume 5, which is where the anime's 1st season ended, the plot of the manga series deviates drastically from that of the show. So story-wise, pretty much everything will be new to you. Hope you like it :).

Watched it today. And wow... I cried pretty good at several points during the final stretch. It's an extremely well-told drama story. I liked the characterization of the male lead a lot. At first, I thought foreshadowing the conclusion in the very first scene would diminish the emotional impact, but in the end, it really didn't. And the fireworks looked amazing, definitely the best I've seen in any anime to date.

Perhaps you could help me out with your perspective. Everything the characters said or thought made sense to me, except for one line:
Spoiler:
The very last utterance of the movie in the post-credits scene. The male lead and Kyoko visit Sakura's grave, and when they turn to leave, she says something along the lines of "Let's get going," to which he replies "Yeah, Sakura's waiting." What is he referring to? Are they going to visit Sakura's mother and implying that Sakura is also still at her house (in the form of her altar)?

he leans more towards ecchi-comedy and heavy comedy romances

Defiantly. During Are you willing to fall in love with a pervert as long as shes cute? we talked a lot about the different characters and there reactions/motivations. We also like making fun of each other's reactions and preferences. Until maybe 6 months ago if anything inappropriate happened in an anime we watched I'd accuse him of trying to use anime as a farce to watch porn together.

I would say that because
Spoiler:
the mom asked for both of them to visit, and the shrine is there, they are going there to see Sakura and her mom

I see. Have you watched Monster Musume yet? That's a show which comes on pretty strong in the ecchi department. I mostly enjoyed it for what it is, although oversized boobs are a pet peeve of mine, so some of the character designs were a bit hard to swallow. You could also try showing him Daimidaler: Prince vs. Penguin Empire, which is pretty high on ecchi and has a ridiculous (in a good way) English dub script.

Oh, you're right, the mother did explicitly ask him for that. This leaves little room for doubt, then.

I already necro'd a pertinent forum thread today, so you might want to post there, but what type of music are you into? Unless I'm blanking completely, we only talked about my preference of rap so far.
Also, has your becoming absorbed in the anime sphere affected your musical taste in any way?
