Sakuga MADs

Postby Tori » Thu Jul 21, 2016 6:30 am

You may all have heard of the term "sakuga" at some point. For those of you who don't know what this is though, sakuga is an industry term that means animation and is often used to describe a scene in an anime where the animation ramps up.

So, what's a sakuga MAD? It's like an AMV dedicated to animation and animators. It's a cool way to find out who is responsible, not only for your favorite anime, but who is responsible for your favorite scene in a certain anime.

This is a MAD of my (and a lot of others) current favorite animator "Yutapon" Yutaka Nakamura. Arguably one of the best action animtors in the industry.

Watched another MAD, this time of Akira Hamaguchi. I really love the way he animates charcter expressions, both facial and body expression. It gives nice subtle hints to the characters personalities.

Here's a MAD of Toshiyuki Inoue. I don't really know what to say here really, this guys work speaks for itself. I'm just gonna list a few things he's worked on: Akira, Wolf Children, Millenium Actress, Dennou Coil, GiTS 1 and 2 and GiTS SAC just to name a few.

I was recently reminded of a sakuga fan favorite, best known for what they call the "Ebata walk" If you have watched shows like Dimension W, Sora no Method or Absolute Duo, you will have seen this walk. I present to you a MAD of Ryouma Ebata.

Not sure what you guys think about this, or if any of you have even watched any of the MADs on here... Oh well, I'm at least enjoying going through these MADs and posting those I like :D

I've watched all of them except that last one here and they are fantastic!

The first one makes me wanna go watch that mecha looking show with the awesome fighting! It also reminded me that I need to try to get back into Space Dandy!

Yeah, Space Dandy was a show put together with the intent of showcasing different diractors and animators, so it's a really cool show to watch just for the different styles in it.

Anyways, I'm glad you enjoy them! :D

Here we have a MAD of Gosei Oda. Oda has kind of an infamous scene in Naruto that people like to point to as bad animation. People were reacting to the fact that during a fight, characters proportions started changing and details started blurring out and looking very off on characters. This is what is known as the blur effect and it's what Oda is known for. It's a technique mostly used to showcase battle or movement at high speeds. You will see quite a few examples of blur animation in this MAD.

Ok, so this is not a MAD, but rather it's just the ED to Mob Psycho 100. This is animated by Miyo Sato using paint on glass animation. That's an animation technique we almost never see in anime and it looks absolutely gorgeous.

Thanks for posting these :D They are really awesome!
When I saw that Mob Psycho 100 ending I was completely shocked by how beautiful it was. And knowing its paint on glass animation just makes me love it even more. The color at the end was a pretty cool touch as well.

Paint on glass animation is such a beautiful animation style. It looks a little bit rough, but that's part of it's charm.
