Hinomaru Sumo (Sumo of the Rising Sun)

Image

Plot:

It is a divine ritual, a martial art, a combat sport—it's sumo!!

A "small" new student, Ushio Hinomaru, appears before the weak little sumo club of Oodachi High School! The words "big" and "heavy" are the rules to this sport, which does not fit this newbie any inch, but this guy goes and does what...?! Ushio and the small sumo club climbs its way to the top!

The goal is Hinoshita Kaisan! (a title for the highest rank in professional sumo, equivalent of Yokozuna)

A fired up high school sumo tale—no retakes allowed!!

*Hinoshita Kaisan - A title for the highest rank in professional sumo, equivalent of Yokozuna.

Looks really good and hot blooded, just like a good sports anime should be. I'm glad this anime is out so that the sumo stigma I had from Rowdy Sumo Wrestler Matsutaro!! will finally be rectified. I like how the character is so serious about the game. I can't wait to learn more about this style of martial arts since the only real exposure I had to it was in Kenichi.

Episode 2
Now that is what I call a true sports anime. No drama, no gimmicks, just raw spirit of the sport the characters love. A good sports show should be able to inspire the viewer; to force its way into the heart of the viewer and have them imagine themselves in the middle of a good battle; that is what makes a good sports show. I love this show. It is a true testament to some of the best sports and martial arts anime that have existed. It does well to build it's characters and makes you cheer for them, even in battles when you already know the outcome.
