Baffled by the response to Eizouken. It's so fun and imaginative. Plus the characters are really enjoyable. I didn't even know who the director was? I'm relatively new to anime (and recently found this podcast). The way you talked about the director makes it sound like he is relatively well known and liked. Since I'm loving Eizouken I suppose I'll have to seek out more from the director. Keep up the good work on the podcast!

Masaaki Yuasa is indeed a very big deal within the anime community, he's directed a lot of really great shows and never disappointed at least for me. So I personally highly recommend pretty much everything he's directed. Also since this is you first post here why don't you head on over to the introduction section and make an introductory post, if you plan on making more posts in the future i'd be neat to get to know you and have you as a part of the community.

Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken - Chris, you stated something along the lines of the show turning you off when the girls go into there animated adventures. I just wanted to say I had the opposite reaction. I thought it was a refreshing way to enhance there experiences and processes. Basically to me, there is quite a bit to unpack there. For one, it really highlights the 2 girls creativity and imagination. It also shows the process in which the girls are figuring out how to animate something but in a visual and imaginary way. Like jumping into the head of 2 creators that are completely vibing off of one another. The third girl acts as someone to ground these 2 even in this process. She’s obviously shown to not be completely into these happenings but nonetheless, she plays along which helps to keep the other 2s creative juices rolling. This is also an amazing visual way to show strife and disconnect between the creative forces later. If the 2 creative girls are not able to gel together and vibe like they have been then it can be visually displayed during these sequences. And not to mention the animation of these scenes are gorgeous to look at and help it stand out from the crowd.
You stated the the one negates the other but I think they compliment each other wonderfully.
I hope maybe with this take it can help you look at the style of this anime a little more fondly.

Yes, I'm so far behind.

True that early on magica record was too slow and felt like a side story, but that makes sense now that further on we know that it was a side story and didn't learn much about these characters since they're not actually members of the main cast and now we've gotten into the actual main characters and they're much better and the story doesn't just do endless labyrinths either now, it took awhile to find it's feet. Obviously I know I can only say this because it took me so long to get to this cast but I feel like saying it anyway.

I highly doubt Darwins game is going to kill off its cute girls, it's way too obvious that the main cast is never actually going to be at risk of dying. I hope I'm wrong and they actually kill main characters off to prove they're willing to do it but I highly doubt it, feels like any other edge show where they can't bring themselves to kill anyone important, so I assume you have nothing to worry about. Although they might introduce a cute girl side character to kill her but main people will never die, unless they can actually surprise me.

Gotta agree with Chris that BOFURI is great and I really love it, one of my favorites from this season. Also I'm surprised to hear you say that you've never seen a game where agility affects your movement speed, I feel like that's pretty common, at least in MMOs, usually movement speed is it's own separate stat that you can't put points into but it changes based on your agility stat as well as gear.

Asteroid is always a big favourite of mine this season, it works well. Girls walk around, look at rocks, stars, or maps, and be gay, perfect. I think the show actually explains a lot, maybe you guys just talked about this show before it did much but I can't remember when it started being info heavy. I feel like now it gives a lot of information per episode, it's clear that the original author is just a big fan of those 3 things and just wanted to write about them a lot, kinda like the Yuru Camp author clearly liked camping a lot. It's very much a passion project and as someone who also cares about those things it's super enjoyable for me.

A shame only pirates can watch IR in america now, at least Animelab and Wakanim kept it up and keep adding new episodes despite also being owned by Sony and apparently combined with Funimation behind the scenes. But they're keeping their independence and not dropping the show just cause Funi did. I'm just glad I can still watch it legally.

Also weird side note: there are 3 shows this season that start with a mistaken gender, 2 being where a girl though the other person was a girl and found out they're a boy. And 1 with a girl thinking the other was a boy but they're a girl.

I had heard that 'science fell in love' was actually really good so I'm surprised you guys had issue with it, but I haven't seen it myself yet (Yes I know I'm so behind this season)

I'm surprised you guys called Budokan a warm hug kind of show, I feel like it's endorsing the horrible side of the idol industry, saying it's good to spend all your money on a single person, giving all your money to someone who doesn't actually love you and if you do it enough you'll get to talk to them for a little bit and that should make you happier than any real thing can give you. Go out and give all your money to some E girl or an idol, that's what it feels like. Heck, when they're waiting in the heat to see the new costumes, a guy says they can leave cause they'll see the new costume at the new performance anyway and then he is shunned for suggesting they don't waste their time and don't sit out in the heat. He is made to feel bad and like he has to apologies for this transgression against a corporation that's trying to sell you cute girls who don't actually love you. cause that's what idols are.

Nothing wrong with liking idol groups, I do. But this show feels like it's trying to sucker people into believing they actually can be happy by spending all their money and talking to an idol for a brief moment.

Would you mind telling me if they're also simuldubbing the anime or only streaming it with subtitles?

Regarding the relationship between agility and movement speed, I concur with Eira that there's a number of video games in which the two are linked. It varies wildly, though; depending on the game, agility can affect (light) combat moves, proficiency with (light) ranged weapons, hit rate, dodge rate, critical hit chance and/or damage, action points (think Fallout), pickpocketing/lockpicking, and last but not least, move/sprint speed. Just off the top of my head.

As far as Animelab goes they did have the dub up for the first episode but it has since been removed, I imagine since Funi made the dub they were allowed to ask that it be removed. Madman has always been a licensing company only and will often put out DVDs or cinema runs they have the rights too as soon as they can without regard for a dub or not, they never make dubs. Funimation will usually make one and then madman will either do an encore cinema run or make a new release of DVDs and Blu-Rays now with the dub added. So I doubt they're going to do one.

I wish I could speak for Wakanim, since they actually put stuff out in your country but I don't know if they're going to make a dub in the future or not. I do know they cut it from nordic countries, for some reason. But Russia, French speaking Europe and german speaking Europe all still have it. You should be able to check what the site has if you go there, when I go I just get told how they're not in Australia. Since german dubs do exist and you actually have companies over there that make them I suppose it's possible, either that or it might get one in the future, it'll most likely never get an English one though.
