Episode 8 Impressions: Sword Art Online II

Following Kirito’s therapy session, it’s time to get back into the game and conclude the BoB tournament. Granted things see a bit of a turn for the worst, the excitement is ramping up.

It seems Sinon is still holding a bit of a grudge on Kirito for her recent defeat by his hands, but that doesn’t stop Kirito from managing to yank yet another discussion session out of her.

While at first it seems a strategy meeting for their competition, his true goal was to discover just who on the BoB roster is new. Seeing as the Death Gun only showed up after the end of the last BoB competition.

This questioning ends up bringing Sinon to drive a bit more out of Kirito in regards to his recent meltdown. She puts things together and pins Kirito as one of the surviving players of SOA, though the conversation is put on hold as the finals begin.

e8swordartonlineii2Thirty players, one map, and one victor. An all out battle that leaves 9 quickly eliminated, but the goal at hand is of course to find Death Gun. While Kirito believes he may have found him, an insane turn of events leads him to attempt to save the life of another player.

Definitely a strong episode. While the entire conversation between Sinon and Kirito had me screaming inside “Just tell her what the hell is going on!”, it was refreshing to see that Sinon can actually think. Putting things together by herself despite Kirito’s vagueness.

What really had me ramped up in this episode was its conclusion. I got some serious vibes of SAO’s first arc, and it felt great. There’s a serious sense of urgency and dire that has finally come back for the series and I’m excited for it. Though it left on a really strong cliff hanger that has me begging for more.

Though I do question Death Gun’s true intentions in this situation.  Surely he’s not out for just anyone.  Perhaps he’s really trying to flush someone out..
